Ahoy shipmates, and welcome to my page! I'm Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Bob Cosby, the Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) here at the FHS Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC). Our mission at Farragut is to develop life skills for our cadets. These include leadership, citizenship, responsibility, self-discipline, teamwork, and even good manners. We are NOT recruiters for the military, and our primary goals are to prepare each cadet to be a successful, responsible citizen and to hopefully see them off to college.
FHS NJROTC cadets participate in a number of local and statewide events, including drill, air rifle, and athletic teams. We visit area campuses, conduct community service projects, and typically take one 2-3 night field trip in the spring to places like the Naval Base at Norfolk, VA., the National Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, VA, and Washington, DC.
I hope you will consider joining us!
Born in Austin, Tx, LCDR Cosby graduated from Houston's Westfield High School in 1983, and enlisted in the Navy in June of 1984. Quickly working his way through the enlisted ranks to the position of Chief Petty Officer, LCDR Cosby earned his commission as an Ensign in January, 1997. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Natural Sciences and Mathematics from Thomas Edison State College in 2005. With a total active duty service of almost 25 years, his final duty station was the Naval Maritime Forecast Center in Norfolk, VA where he was the command's Executive Officer (XO). LCDR Cosby retired from active duty on 1 February 2009. His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. He began his teaching career at Farragut High School in July of 2009.
